Lūʻau 2022: kaulana nā pua, "Famous are the flowers"
|
Lūʻau is back, and in-person!
Our theme this year is taken from a famous mele written by Ellen Kehoʻohiwaokalani Wright Pendergast during the overthrow of the monarchy. The name of the mele, Kaulana Nā Pua translates to "Famous are the Flowers," the theme for our 60th annual lūʻau. The literal meaning of the word pua is flower, but can also be used to refer to children. The song speaks of the pua, the children, who will perpetuate the culture and be the future of the Hawaiian nation. Our program this year will feature a variety of songs and dances that speak of the beauty and youth of Hawaii. Tickets cost $20 and sales are from 3/30-4/2 at Cherry Street Market. Contact Emmalie Payton, [email protected], for more info. We hope to see you at lūʻau on Saturday, April 23rd! :) |
